President Tinubu Arrives in Japan Ahead of TICAD9 Summit

 Tokyo, Japan – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu touched down in Tokyo early Tuesday to join other African leaders, development partners, and key stakeholders at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). The summit is scheduled to take place from August 20 to 22 at the Pacifico Yokohama.

Upon arrival at 12:50 a.m. local time, President Tinubu was welcomed at the Presidential Wing of Haneda International Airport by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, the Japanese official overseeing TICAD arrangements at Haneda, as well as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and officials from the Nigerian Embassy.

Launched by the Japanese government, TICAD is a triennial event co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank. The conference rotates between Japan and African nations, with Tunisia hosting the last session.

This year’s TICAD9 theme, “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will spotlight Africa’s economic transformation, enhancing business environments and institutions through private investment and innovation. The summit will also focus on building a resilient and sustainable African society that supports human security, peace, and stability.

During the conference, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other leaders and participate in high-profile discussions with CEOs of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.
