Major General Chinedu Nnebeife Becomes 47th GOC of 2 Division Nigerian Army | Ibadan Ceremony Highlights



 Ibadan, 19 August 2025 – Major General Chinedu Nnebeife has officially assumed command as the 47th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 2 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMA Sector 3.


The handing and taking over ceremony took place at the Headquarters of 2 Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan. The event brought together senior military officers, soldiers, and distinguished guests.


The transition marked a smooth handover from Major General Obinna Onubogu, who completed his tenure as GOC, to Major General Nnebeife. Both officers formally signed the handing and taking over notes, symbolizing the transfer of authority.


The outgoing GOC presented the Division’s command flag to Major General Nnebeife. The new GOC was decorated with the 2 Division insignia, officially marking the start of his tenure.


The ceremony included the hoisting of the new Division flag at the quarter guard, a tradition symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter for the Division. The event concluded with a group photograph capturing this historic moment.


In his address, Major General Nnebeife expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve in his new role. He also thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, NAM, for trusting him with this responsibility.


“I am grateful to God for this privilege. I appreciate the Chief of Army Staff for the confidence reposed in me. I pledge to uphold the values and standards of the Nigerian Army and serve the nation with dedication and integrity,” Gen Nnebeife said.


Gen Nnebeife commended his predecessor, Major General Onubogu, for his outstanding leadership and commitment during his tenure. He urged officers and soldiers of the Division to extend their full support and redouble their efforts in the discharge of military duties.


In his farewell address, Major General Onubogu thanked God for the privilege of serving as GOC. He expressed appreciation to the COAS and to all officers and soldiers for their support during his tenure.


Gen Onubogu called on personnel to offer the same, if not greater, support to Major General Nnebeife, ensuring continuity, stability, and progress within the Division.
