Comedian DeeOne Alleges Kizz Daniel Refused to Perform at Paid Event, Warns of Foreign Competition

Nigerian comedian DeeOne has sparked reactions with a revelation about his experience working with Afropop superstar Kizz Daniel, alleging that the singer once refused to show up for a paid event despite receiving full payment.
In a recent conversation, DeeOne recounted what he described as a troubling encounter, stressing that the incident highlights a worrying trend of unprofessional behavior among some Nigerian artists. He warned that if such attitudes persist, foreign acts from countries like Tanzania, Ghana, and other parts of Africa may soon overtake Nigerian entertainers on the global stage.
The comedian explained that he had personally booked Kizz Daniel to perform at a major event organized for a well-known brand. According to him, despite all contractual obligations being met and payment completed, the singer failed to appear at the venue. DeeOne claimed that the situation escalated to the point where people had to be sent to physically bring the musician down to the location before he eventually performed.
“We pamper them too much,” DeeOne lamented. “Very soon you’ll see African artists from Tanzania, Ghana, everywhere taking the spot of Nigerian artists. I have booked Kizz Daniel for an event before, for a very popular brand, and he refused to show up.
We had to send people to drag him down to the venue. This is very wrong because artists abroad don’t behave like this; they are time conscious. Imagine if it was abroad—it would even look awkward to involve the police in that type of situation.”
DeeOne stressed that the lack of accountability for such behavior within Nigeria’s entertainment industry only emboldens artists to repeat it.
He explained that while fans at home often excuse these lapses, international audiences and promoters will not tolerate such actions. According to him, the global entertainment business thrives on professionalism, punctuality, and respect for contracts, and Nigerian stars risk losing credibility if they fail to uphold these standards.
He further argued that Nigerian music has gained global attention and influence, but sustaining this dominance requires discipline, humility, and consistency from its biggest stars. He noted that fans and promoters abroad have less patience for lateness, cancellations, or contract breaches, and such actions could damage Nigeria’s reputation as the entertainment hub of Africa.
The comedian urged Nigerian artists to adopt a more professional approach to their craft and to respect the agreements they make with event organizers. He said that while Nigerian fans may overlook such lapses due to their admiration for celebrities, the international stage is far less forgiving.
DeeOne’s remarks have reignited discussions about professionalism in the Nigerian music industry, with many observers agreeing that while Nigerian artists have conquered global charts, their work ethic and reliability must match international standards if they are to maintain dominance.
