Tinubu Hails Coronation of Olubadan, Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria’s Progress

 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described Nigeria’s traditional institutions as vital guardians of the country’s cultural heritage and important players in sustaining peace and unity. The President made this known on Friday in Ibadan during the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, President Tinubu praised the enduring role of monarchs in Nigerian society and congratulated the new Olubadan on what he called a “historic ascension” to the throne of his forefathers.

Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s traditional rulers are more than ceremonial figures. According to him, they remain the sacred custodians of history and culture, ensuring that society remains connected to its roots while adapting to modern realities.

“Our traditional institutions are the sacred custodians of our varied history and play a crucial role in social cohesion,” the President said. “They embody the resilience of our people and stand as a bridge between our proud heritage and the promise of our shared future.”

The President noted that the coronation of Oba Ladoja is not only a cultural milestone for Ibadanland but also a reminder of the importance of perseverance, resilience, and service to community—values he said Nigeria must continue to uphold.

The coronation ceremony in Ibadan drew dignitaries, politicians, community leaders, and cultural enthusiasts who gathered to witness the official enthronement of Oba Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan. Ibadan, known for its deep-rooted traditions and influential history, holds one of the most respected thrones in Yoruba land.

For President Tinubu, the event was also personal. He referred to the new Olubadan as his “brother, friend, and ally,” underscoring a long-standing relationship that goes beyond politics and cultural ties.

“I congratulate Kabiyesi on this historic ascension to the throne of his forefathers and pray for his reign to be long, prosperous, and impactful,” Tinubu stated.
