The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, August 15, 2025, secured the conviction and sentencing of four internet fraudsters before Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The convicts, Bisiriyu Roqeeb Abiodun, Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, Akinwale Isaac, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo, were among the 93 suspected fraudsters arrested in a sting operation at a hotel within the precincts of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State.
They were arraigned on separate charges bordering on impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.
The Charges
Abiodun, also known as “Sharon,” was accused of impersonating a white American woman to defraud a victim from Tennessee, using a Zangi account linked to his Samsung Galaxy S20.
Olatunji was charged for posing as “Camila” through a Google account with intent to gain financially.
Isaac was accused of using WhatsApp accounts under the names “Monica” and “Daisy” to deceive unsuspecting victims.
Oshundairo was charged for impersonating a tax and service certificate expert through a Gmail account to mislead the public.
Court Proceedings
All four defendants pleaded guilty. The prosecution, led by counsels Franklin Ofoma and S.M. Yabo, called EFCC investigative officers to review the facts of the cases. Evidence presented included extra-judicial statements, mobile devices used in the fraud, forensic investigation reports, and bank drafts of restitution made by the defendants.
Justice Dipeolu admitted the exhibits, found the defendants guilty, and convicted them accordingly.
Plea for Leniency
Defence counsels pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, stressing that their clients were first-time offenders who had shown genuine remorse.
