Peter Obi Commissions Restaurant in Asaba, Celebrates Growth of Small Businesses

Former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, ended a busy weekend with activities in Abia and Delta States, highlighting his support for enterprise and small businesses.

On Saturday, Obi joined dignitaries in Umuahia, Abia State, to celebrate the 75th birthday of renowned industrialist, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa. The following day, he travelled to Asaba, Delta State, where he commissioned a new restaurant founded by twin sisters who also work with Air Peace at Asaba Airport.

According to Obi, the sisters had informed him about their plans a year ago when they greeted him at the airport. Despite the challenges of starting a business in Nigeria, he encouraged them to remain focused and committed.

Three months ago, the sisters reached out again to share that they had launched the restaurant and were gradually making progress. True to his promise, Obi honoured their invitation to commission the business.

Speaking at the event, Obi expressed delight that the small venture had already grown to employ over twelve people, noting that what started as a dream has now become a source of livelihood for others.

He stressed that Nigeria could benefit immensely from such growth stories if more micro and small businesses were supported.

“What I witnessed is a clear testimony to what production and enterprise can do for a nation. Imagine if we had one million such small businesses, each employing ten people — that alone would provide ten million jobs,” Obi said.

He further emphasized that small businesses are the greatest employers of labour worldwide, from advanced economies like the United States and China to rapidly growing nations like India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Obi concluded by reiterating his belief that with the right environment and support for entrepreneurship, a new Nigeria is possible.
